ACTIVE BY NATURE
Free assemblies and workshops for schools in Hastings and St Leonards
Active by Nature is a new project from Project Rewild CIC, delivered with support and funding from Sport England’s Movement Fund.
The project aims to help children and young people spend more time outside, move more and develop a positive relationship with physical activity.
Not every child enjoys competitive sport or feels confident taking part in organised activities. Active by Nature introduces children to the many other ways they can move, play and feel good outdoors.
Running through the woods, climbing, balancing, walking, exploring, playing with friends or visiting the beach can all help children become more active.
Our school offer
We are offering free assemblies and workshops for schools in Hastings and St Leonards, suitable for children and young people aged 7–16.
Sessions will explore:
Why movement is important for our bodies and minds
How time outside can support wellbeing
Finding a healthy balance between screen time and active time
Different ways to be active beyond traditional or competitive sport
How outdoor play can build confidence, resilience and independence
Simple ways children and families can become more active locally
The woods, parks, hills and beaches available around Hastings and St Leonards
Sessions are designed to be positive, engaging and accessible. The aim is not to make children feel guilty about screen use or inactivity, but to inspire them to discover forms of movement they can genuinely enjoy.
Schools will also be able to signpost children and families to free Active by Nature outdoor sessions delivered by Project Rewild in local green and coastal spaces.
Supporting your pupils
Active by Nature may be particularly valuable for pupils who:
Are currently less physically active
Lack confidence in PE or competitive sport
Spend limited time playing outside
Experience financial or practical barriers to organised activities
Would benefit from greater confidence, movement and connection with others
Have additional needs and may respond better to flexible, non-competitive activities

We would be happy to discuss the needs of your pupils and identify the most suitable way for your school to become involved.
Help us inspire more local children to get outside, get moving and discover that being active can feel like play.
