This role would be ideal for:

  • A freelance outdoor learning instructor looking for meaningful, flexible work with opportunities to grow.

  • Someone with strong experience as a practitioner, mentor, or facilitator who feels confident in a leadership role.

Essential:

  • Proven experience leading groups of children and/or adults outdoors

  • Strong outdoor skill set (e.g. bushcraft, foraging, coastal skills, food growing, forest school)

  • Ability to lead safely, manage risk, and respond calmly under pressure

  • Excellent group leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to inspire, support, and mentor others

  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice

  • Reliability and resilience to work outdoors in all weathers

Desirable:

  • Forest School or equivalent outdoor learning qualification

  • Outdoor first aid certificate

  • Experience working with schools, youth groups, or alternative education

  • Understanding of, and commitment to, creating accessible community opportunities

  • Knowledge and experience of conservation and land management work

  • A deep personal relationship with nature, and the ability to share that connection with others

  • Additional skill sets such as storytelling, music, or archery

What this looks like in practice:

  • Planning and leading full outdoor activity days with confidence

  • Adapting sessions to all weathers (yes, even putting up tarps in the rain)

  • Managing staff, volunteers, and group dynamics, including challenging behaviour

  • Inspiring respect for nature and modelling care for wild places

Rates of pay are variable depending on the group, but we do pay staff very fairly.

All positions are subject to safeguarding and DBS checks.

I worked with Project Rewild when moving back to the area and felt an instant sense of community and connection. It doesn’t feel like work, but more like being immersed in something special where you are free from your average working confines. It is amazing being outdoors and having fun, whilst learning new skills and feeling part of a project that is for the greater good and has grown from a place of love and nurture
