Training at Project Rewild
Project Rewild offers Staff training to school staff and educators across East Sussex.
Over the last year we have delivered outdoor training to hundreds of teachers and school staff empowering and inspiring educators to take their learning outside.
With over 22 years of outdoor learning experience our lead trainer Luke Funnell wants to help school staff to spend more time outside, improving school life for both students and teachers whilst reaching more people with our aim of reconnecting and rewilding our children, families and communities.
Training Offered:
Our training has been developed by Dr Daniel Ford and Luke Funnell. Daniel is a professional researcher and has a PHD on the effects of outdoor learning on children. Luke has been delivering outdoor learning sessions for over 22 years.
Rewild Training Days: We offer full day training for up to 30 staff or 2-hour afterschool training sessions. Training can cover practical outdoor skills, inspiring ideas and activities, nature-based storytelling, theory behind outdoor learning, or team building fun days for staff.
Cost is dependent on time, location and numbers. Contact us to get a quote on training days / sessions
6 week ‘Rewild’ programme: We also offer a full 6-week training programme for school staff. This is a far more immersive course which will give participants the confidence to deliver regular outdoor learning sessions in school.
This will include six 2-hour sessions, a total of 12 hours of outdoor learning. The cost will be for a group of up to 12 adults. Alternatively, this can be delivered over two 6-hour days.
Cost - £650 For up to 12 learners.
What does our 6-week Rewild training include?
Our Rewild training aims to give you all the practical and planning skills you need to run regular outdoor learning and play sessions in your school:
Practical ideas, games and activities to suit your school’s outdoor space
Child development theory relating to outdoor learning
Observation and listening to children
The benefits of the outdoors and play
How to develop policies and risk assessments
Woodland/outdoor space stewardship and management
During the course, you will:
Receive practical demonstrations
Partake in practical nature-based activities, games, songs, stories
Take part in group discussions
Design and deliver a pilot programme to the group.
Ideally, we would work in your school grounds to help adapt to the space you have available. But if this is not possible, we can offer a local site to deliver the training.
This training is not an accredited course. It is also not a Forest School course. This training is designed to give educators the confidence to spend more time outside with their students. To help students and school staff feel happier, healthier and more connected to the natural world. In order to deliver ‘Forest School’ sessions in your school you will need to become a qualified Forest School leader
There are many different types of outdoor learning, all of which provide fantastic learning experiences for children and young people. Some examples of other types of outdoor learning are:
• Environmental education
• Field studies
• Bushcraft
• Horticulture
• Earth Education
• Adventurous activities
• Coyote Mentoring
There are many more! All of these approaches have different focuses and underlying aims and therefore will have their own methodologies. Forest School is the name of a specific ethos which requires ‘Forest School’ training. A good provider of this training is Circle of Life Rediscovery.
Project Rewild is able to deliver Forest School groups in schools More information here.
